I had some problems uploading my pictures, so am doing it a different way now. I have had to republish many things to get them all back in order and properly uploaded, and some of what had to be deleted already had comments. I am doing a "cut and paste" so as not to loose them.

Alice, we had a chick born with a toe hanging and discoloured, like that foot. It is most likely that the foot became compressed against the shell and the blood supply cut off. The mother hen turns the eggs daily to give the developing chick maximum room and to enable it to develop correctly. Sometimes this doesn't happen...

Actually, this chick was fine to start, walking in the nestbox and climbing on it's mom. I think I know what happened. I'm very tired tonight (short night, long day) but will soon post about this.
